2012. It Ends with 2.

Oh look!

It’s a new year.

That number stings a little.

Mainly just the 2 at the end.

Because I was born in 1972.  Which makes this the year I shall turn…gulp…40.

Twenty years ago, I was a young, fresh faced, well rested, ambitious girl.

Twenty years from now, I’ll be facing 60.

So here I sit…in the middle.

My thirties were dominated by motherhood.  Three babies, breastfeeding, walking, talking, potty training, etc.  Now, in my 40th year, my baby girl will be starting kindergarten.  It’s a weird feeling…looking back to the day we learned that our first child would be a daughter…I would never have guessed we’d end up with three of them!

This year, I need to focus on some details in my life that have fallen to the wayside.  You know…the typical stuff:  lose some weight, commit to wearing sunscreen every day, less chocolate/more veggies.  I also need to organize a little clutter, before it becomes a LOT of clutter…oh, and a couple closets could use some attention as well.

In summary, here’s my top three goals:

I’m kicking off 2012 by brushing up on some diabetes management skills.  I’m signed up for five classes this month through Type 1 University.  The timing couldn’t be better.  On the heels of a dark rut with blood sugar mania, these refreshers are more than welcome right now.

The weight thing has been a looming disaster for a couple years.  Since my celiac diagnosis in 2009, I’ve had a horrible time.  I feel motivated inside…the problem is that I have a hard time turning motivation into action.  It’s a crazy cycle that I’d like to stop before I turn 40 in October.  I want to conquer this one…but I don’t have much of a plan right now, so stay tuned.

And lastly…The Homefront.  We’ve been in the house for 5 years now.  There are hardly any family pictures to be found.  I can’t put my finger on it, but I’ve had a hard time settling in for the long haul.  At first, I think I was just overwhelmed with caring for my family, and on constant guard for the next crisis.  Then I was pretty sure we were going to lose the house when the market crashed, and my husband took a pay cut.  Now I think we really are putting down roots, so I need to get over my reservations about putting up some pictures.  I have a wonderful family.  I’m going to miss my girls next year, when they’re all off to school.  How nice it will be to look around, and see pictures of their smiling faces!

Motherhood.  Diabetes.  Celiac.

This is my life.

Thank you for sharing my journey.
