I wanted to lose a ton of weight.
That was my goal.
I didn’t have a goal of doing a push up. Or running 4 miles. Or running 4 miles that included a killer hill while carrying a 10 pound weight over my head. Or running 4 miles carrying a 10 pound boulder the entire time. Or doing a 45 minute kick boxing class holding two 10 pound weights.
Jumping, running, sit ups, planks, push ups.
Not my goal.
Overcoming sweet cravings, being more cautious about what/when I’m eating, and learning to make my health a higher priority…
Developing friendships with other women who push you to succeed instead of playing caddy “girl games” behind your back. Finding confidence when I was sure there was none left. Surprising myself when I realized how strong I could be…
It didn’t happen.
I didn’t lose a ton of weight.
The “official” scale said 5 pounds. My scale (which, by the way, matched my doctor’s scale) said 10 pounds. Three inches off my waist, 1 inch off my chest, 1/4 inch off my arms.
I went from doing ZERO push ups in a minute to doing 8.
I went from holding a plank for 30 seconds to holding a plank for a little over 3 minutes.
I went from doing 20 bicep curls in a minute using 8 pound weights to doing 29 in a minute using 10 pound weights.
Instead of losing a ton of weight, I gained so much more. I laid a foundation that I’m ready to build on.
I don’t know how long it will take me.
But I’m not giving up. I plan to start a second BodyBack session next week.
Maybe, just MAYBE, I’ll be ready to share my before and after pictures at the end of the next 8 weeks.
If you’re a mother who is struggling, I’d highly recommend this program. Most of my readers are mothers who are raising a child with type 1 diabetes. To my D Mamas, I just want to say that I believe you‘re still in there.
I know it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. I know you may feel as if diabetes has stormed into your life and swallowed you whole. I know you wake up, and can hardly recognize the woman in the mirror staring back at you. I know you wonder where these crazy emotions are coming from…and you worry that you won’t be able to get them in check.
I know you’re overwhelmed. I know you get scared, anxious, and intimidated by the challenges your facing everyday. I know you’re constantly second guessing yourself, worried that you’ll make a decision that could be devastating for your child.
But I also know this:
You have a fighting spirit. You are capable of doing things you never imagined. You are stronger than you think. You have the ability to make genuine changes. You thrive under pressure.
You are amazing.
